Welcome to Limbic Studio!
Named for the deep, primitive structures of the brain, the studio, like the limbic system, is the anatomic seat of the emotions. Not only is making art emotionally engaging, but the product should engage you, the viewer, in all your senses.
The goal of these images is to kindle your limbic memory – for you to feel the mood, the summer warmth, the crisp autumn air, to hear the wind in the leaves, and especially to smell the New England marshes or summer fields. Olfaction (smell) is the oldest, most primitive sense; it takes us back, reliably and instantaneously, to another place and time.
Even the portraits, mostly commissioned pieces or family, pets and friends, should spark a connection; the personality, stage of life, contemplation, or certainly humor, should provoke a sense of reminiscence, recognition, or humorous curiosity.
I hope you enjoy the site - but even more, I hope you find the work evocative. ~ BJ Beck
